Alexander Barvinok graduated from the Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) State University in USSR (now Russia)
in 1988; his advisor was
Anatoly Vershik.
His thesis was on the combinatorics and computational complexity of
polytopes with symmetry.
He is still interested in polytopes, symmetry and complexity.
For the past 20+ years he has been living in Ann Arbor and he kind of
likes it there.
